The President of Turtle Island Soups, Jan Bergen, tells the story of how the recipe for this soup mix was developed:

Our recipe for "Just for Joy" Black Bean Soup is adapted from a recipe brought back from Cuba in 1950 by my husband's favorite "Unc" and the beloved "Auntie".  In those days, Havana was all the rage!  The food was a new adventure in an ever expanding world of tastes and cultures!  Later, family gatherings would not have been the same without their re-telling of raucous Cuban escapades over rich, delicious bowls of Auntie's incredible beans (aka Turtle Beans) and Rice.  It is difficult to to improve on perfection, so we have used the same seasonings and brown rice in our soup as in the original recipe.  The most significant difference is it now has "Just Add Water" convenience!  We hope that you enjoy this recipe from our own family achives as much as we enjoy sharing it with you!

This pasta sauce is the result of two very similar tastes, pinot noir wine and portobello mushrooms, being "married together" to create a truly unique flavor profile...

Often, when wine enthusiasts gather to assess fine wines, they will describe very good quality pinot noir wines as "having a barn-yard nose".  (For those who are unfamiliar with such descriptions, this simply means that the wine has a very "earthy" aroma and bouquet.  To wine enthusiasts, it is a sign that it has excellent varietal characteristics and that it is likely a very, very good wine.)
