Esta Chocolates is a small family business, founded in 2006 in Waterloo, Ontario. Co-founders Abe and Ebru Hacioglu are hardly new to the chocolate business, however. Abe is a third generation member of a family that has been in the chocolate industry since 1953. As well, Abe is also co-owner of the core family business in Europe that is famous for serving most of the high-end confectionary manufacturers.

While the company may have opened its doors only in the past few years, Abe grew up "surrounded by chocolate". At seven, he was sweeping the floors and preparing boxes in his uncle's chocolate factory in Istanbul, Turkey. At 14, he used his knowledge of German, learned in school, to translate for German sales-people who came to the factory to sell equipment. By the time he was an adult, he was working in the family business full-time and eventually he rose to become the Chief Executive Officer, running two candy factories and supervising a staff of up to 500.

While their love of the chocolate industry is obvious, both Abe and Ebru share a passion for excellence. Abe emphatically states "To make good truffles, we use the finest ingredients (most of which are imported from Europe), and state of the art equipment. As well, with over 30 years experience, our passion and our inspiration to make a truly world-class product at reasonable prices has all come together to produce our amazing truffles. Our goal is to make the richest truffles at the best possible prices for the North American market. We've combined our European tradition with modern technology to make what we think are the finest European-style truffles in Canada. Finally, we will never compromise our high quality standards. We keep the same level of standards for our service and reliability as well"

Ebru is certainly not lacking passion when she talks about her role in the family business either. She smiles when she states: "Our truffles are amazing with a smooth outer layer of the finest chocolate.
